From October 18 through October 25, Mary and I will be in Cabo San Lucas with Wayne and Maria, where, together with two other couples, we will fish on a 61 Buddy Davis in the 2009 Bisbee Black and Blue Marlin Tournament, which is one of the richest, if not the richest, of billfish tournaments. In addition, I am sure it is thick with Kalleefornighyay millionaires and folks famous for being famous, not that it is easy to impress someone whose uncle was a city commissioner in Williston and who has kissed Lana Turner.
Wayne and Maria have fished the Bisbee before, and were kind enough to invite us to join them this year, a prospect to which we look forward with great anticipation. I don't know whether Alan Jackson is fishing the tournament in his Hull Billy, a vintage 43 Merritt I once saw in the marina at Bahama Bay in West End when Mary and I were passing through in the old Scalded Dog, or if Kenny Chesney will be there doing his Midget Island Guy Thing, but if either one of them gives me any trouble at the Cabo Wabo - and I mean even a little bit of Stink Eye - I am gonna bend a bar stool over his nose while Wayne handles the bodyguards.
In anticipation of us winning several hundred thousand dollars net of Mexican income tax, there will be a Bisbee Bulletin posted daily, whether we are fishing or drinking. But we will not be doing both, because, as a rummy who was the mate on Tom Panza's Dottie's Delight once told me a year or two before he fell into the slip one night and drowned, "You can power drink, or you can power fish, but you can't do both.", a maxim the wisdom of which he gave his life to impress on me.
Welcome
Welcome to The Fishing Reports, the official journal of The Ancient and Honorable Order of the Blind Hog. These are the most comprehensive accounts available of the fishing adventures, and of the ruminations on fishing, of the Blind Hogs. In fact, these are the only accounts available, because hogs ain't all that literate.
